Our Story

Mary Ann and Lester first met in 1990. They both attended Zamorano Elementary school in San Diego, CA and took the same carpool to school. Communication was rare between the two back then, but they did love to annoy each other …

“I remember one afternoon…school was just out…we were both waiting for Auntie Susan to come pick us up. For some reason Mary Ann kept bugging me that day, teasing me about something. I asked her to stop several times but she kept going, taunting and teasing. So I finally told her that if she didn’t stop, I was gonna pour my soda on her. She stopped. I turned around and continued to drink the rest of my soda. Just when I thought I was in the clear she started up again, yelling and pointing at me. The next thing I remember, I was spraying the soda in my mouth all over her hair…she never teased me again =)” - Lester

After elementary school, Mary Ann and Lester went their separate ways. They did attend the same Junior High School, but were not as close. They had very different schedules and didn’t talk much during this time. They would see each other in passing, but not much other than that.

They once again reconnected in High School. Luckily both were a little more mature now and started to bond a true friendship. They continued to carpool together, sometimes taking the bus to school and the rest of the time they would switch off driving. They were both seeing other people at the time but for some reason, they were never apart. They went on dates together, carpooled to all the school dances together and even went on vacation together.

After High School they again went their separate ways…

They ran into each other again at a mutual friend’s (Allison) graduation party in 2002. From that day forward they hung out on a daily basis. Then on July 10, 2002 Lester and Mary Ann officially labeled themselves as a couple.

They both decided to go back to school. Mary Ann went to nursing school at Maric College in San Diego, and graduated in October 2006. She received her Registered Nursing License in February 2007. Lester attended Platt College in El Cajon, CA to obtain his Associate Degree in Graphic Design, and continued on to complete his Bachelor’s degree in MultiMedia Arts. Lester graduated Summa Cum Laude of his class in April 2007.

April 10, 2007. Lester, Lester’s mother and sister, and Mary Ann headed to a surprise dinner that evening. The surprise was supposedly for another family member, but it was actually the dinner celebration for the engagement. On the way to the dinner, Lester’s sister Lovella insisted that she wanted to stop by La Jolla shores (scenic location in San Diego) before dinner since they were running a little early. This was of course part of the plan. After making their way down to the beach, Lester turned to Mary Ann and got down on one knee…

“I was so shocked it was happening. I was so choked up with joy that all I could do was cry; I couldn’t talk so I had to nod my head YES! With the tears rolling down my face, all I could do was hug him.” -Mary Ann

After the proposal they headed to the dinner party to celebrate their engagement with family and friends.

After 7 years dating, and 2 years of being engaged, Lester and Mary Ann are finally going to make it official on August 22, 2009
