There are numerous smaller hotels in the ocean beach area. These can easily be found with a google search. We would suggest using the various discount hotel websites (i.e. expedia.com, hotels.com, travelocity.com, orbitz.com) to compare prices. Sometimes booking directly with the hotel will give you the biggest discount.

If you are looking for the larger chain or resort hotels, the neighboring city of mission valley is an excellent place to search.
